Curriculum Vitae

Born in 1959 in Mainz, has been working for „Süddeutsche Zeitung“, one of the leading newspapers in Germany since 1999. He joined the newspaper as deputy business editor and in 2007 went on to be Head of Economics and Finance Department, together with Ulrich Schäfer. He started his career as a journalist at the „Offenbach-Post“, where he was last responsible for politics, economics and news topics. Afterwards he worked as chief business editor of the „Handelsblatt“. He studied law and economics in Frankfurt, Lausanne and Tübingen and wrote his PhD thesis on the World Trade Organisation. He has published four books: „Germany – wrongly ruled?“ (2006), „Plundering of the middle class” (2009), „Having a lot of money“ (2010), „Long live the Euro!“ (2012), „We need the refugees!” (2015). Together with Ulrich Schäfer he is moderator and manager of Germanys annual leading business congress in Berlin „Süddeutsche Zeitung Economic Summit”, which is regularly attended by 300 top business leaders from Europe and European Prime Ministers, including Chancellor Angela Merkel.
