Dr. Lutz-Christian Funke is the Secretary General of KfW Banking Group. He acts as Chief of Staff being responsible for German Governmental and European Affairs, Holdings and Subsidiaries as well as Corporate Communications.
Dr. Funke completed his undergraduate and graduate studies in law at the universities of Freiburg, Frankfurt and Geneva. Having completed his second state examinations in Berlin, Dr. Funke received a German doctorate in law from the University of Frankfurt. In 1996, Dr. Funke joined KfW Banking Group in Frankfurt, initially as a Project Manager in the Office of Management Affairs, subsequently as a Senior Project Manager and Vice President in KfW's export and project finance group. In 2003 he was promoted to the position of First Vice President responsible for Management Affairs. In 2007, Dr. Funke was seconded to IKB Deutsche Industrie AG as an Authorised Representative and Senior Vice President re-sponsible for the Office of Management and Legal Affairs as well as Corporate Communications. In 2009, he returned to KfW as Senior Vice President of Corporate Management and subsequently as Secretary General.
Dr. Funke is Managing Director of KfW’s Beteiligungsgesellschaft, a group holding of KfW’s subsidiaries, i.e. KfW IPEX-Bank. He is member of the Supervisory Board of IKB Deutsche Industriebank AG and member of the Supervisory Board of 50hertz Transmission GmbH as well as Deputy Chairman of Eurogrid Board of Directors and member of Eurogrid Audit Committee. Additionally, Dr. Funke is Managing Director of KfW's GZBV, which manages KfW's stake in Airbus, and a Board Member of KfW's non-profit foundation "KfW Stiftung”.
