Curriculum Vitae

Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Constantinos Sourkounis received the Dipl.-Ing. and Dr.-Ing. degrees from TU Clausthal, Germany, in 1989 and 1994, respectively; and the habilitation degree in 2003 from the Institute of Electrical Power Engineering, where he was a Chief Engineer. Since 2003, he has been a Professor at Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany, heading the Institute for Power Systems Technology and Power Mechatronics. Since 2017 he is heading the branch of Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology in Bochum, Germany. His main research interests include mechatronic drives, renewable energy sources (RES), decentralized energy systems supplied by RES, and energy supply systems for transportation. He has initiated and led numerous research projects in cooperation with national and international industrial partners. Results of his research have been presented and published in international conferences and journals, in more than 340 publications. Beside his teaching and research activities, he has served as an expert in various voluntary positions including:

2003 - 2010  Visiting Professor on the subject “RES Engineering“ at TU Clausthal

since 2004    Member of scientific advisory board of the journal “Drive Technologies” of VDI (Association of German Engineers).

2009 - 2014  Member of the Managing Board of the NRW Research School “Energy Efficient Production”

2009 -2016   Member of the platform “Electromobility: Infrastructure" of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs (BMVBS)

2011 - 2014  Member of the International Jury for the Research and Technology Programme “Energies 2020" of the Austrian Research Promotion Agency

2013 - 2017 Member of the Board of Trustees of the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology
