Dr. Rolf Martin Schmitz | CEO, RWE SA

Dr. Rolf Martin Schmitz, born in 1957, is Chairman of the Executive Board of RWE AG.

He studied Mechanical Engineering Studies at RWTH Aachen University. After that he did his doctor´s degree (Dr.-Ing.) at Aachen University. Until 2009 Rolf Martin Schmitz worked in different companies at the energy industry. Amongst others he was Member of the Executive Board of rhenag Rheinische Energie AG in Cologne, Board Member of Thüga AG in Munich, Chairman of the Management Board of E.ON Kraftwerke GmbH in Hannover and CEO of RheinEnergie AG, Cologne and CEO of the Management Board of Stadtwerke Köln, Cologne.

Since 2009 Rolf Martin Schmitz has been working at RWE AG in Essen. He served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of RWE AG from 2010 and as Deputy CEO of the Executive Board of RWE AG from 2012 until October 2016. Since October 2016, Rolf Martin Schmitz is Chairman of the Executive Board  (CEO) of RWE AG and in addition since 1 May 2017 Chief Human Resources Officer (CHO).

Rolf Martin Schmitz is also Vice President of the Bundesverband der Deutschen Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft (BDEW – German Association of Energy and Water Industry).
