Meropi Ydraiou was born in Corfu.
She holds a Law degree from Athens Kapodistrian University as well as a master’s degree in International Business Law from the University of Manchester.
Prior to her election as a Mayor she practiced law at a professional level.
She is fluent in English, French and Italian.
She was first elected as a Perfect at the age of 30 years and assumed duties of Deputy Perfect of Spatial and Urban Planning, and the Environment from 2006 – 2010.
In October 2010, herself with a group of young people, created an independent self-governing party, named “Corfu Municipality” and nominated herself as a candidate for the position of Mayor in the municipality of Corfu. In the municipal elections of 2014, she was the leader of the opposition, while on June 3, 2019 she was elected as Mayor of Corfu and Diapontia islands gaining 65.3% of the votes.
