Gerhard Alfred Dirk Bauer -as his full name is- has been District Chief Executive (Landrat) since January 1st, 2004 and is currently on his third term of office, which started on January 1st, 2020.
Mr. Bauer has studied law at the University of Tübingen and successfully completed his first state examination with distinction. He went on as an intern at the Tübingen Regional Court completing his second state examination with distinction, as well.
He started his professional career in 1989 as a lawyer in Stuttgart with his main focus being on public and private Construction Law.
He then decided to further his career in public administration and in 1991 accepted a job at the Rems-Murr-Kreis district office as Head of Social Affairs, including two years as Head of the Administrative Department, where he was responsible for five different offices: social welfare office, youth welfare office, compensation office, road traffic office, legal and regulatory office.
Between 1994 and 1995, he served as specialist staff at the Stuttgart Regional Council and was assigned with the planning approvals and expropriations.
His last position, before he pursued a career in local politics, was First State Official and permanent General Deputy of the District Chief Executive at the Schwäbisch Hall district office. Within the framework of his capacity as Head of Department 6, Mr. Bauer was responsible for 6 different offices: public order and road traffic office, local traffic office, compensation and integration office, veterinary office, health office, legal office.
